The following is an excerpt from an individual who utilized her 35th birthday to help others.

......."I'm sending this email to 35 friends and family who have touched my life in some way over my 35 years of living.  .....So in honor of my birthday, I'm shamelessly asking each of you to consider giving a gift to a charity whose work I value very much.  As a person who has always loved words and language, who has found writing beautiful and powerful, and who has often taken my ability to ready for granted...I'm asking you to consider removing an item from the "Wish List" of the York County Literacy Council.  The Literacy Council works hard to help those for whom language is a struggle, for whom writing is a slow process, for whom reading is still a dream.

If you can buy just one of these items (or send a donation and I'll buy it for you) , I plan to make a special delivery to the Literacy  Council on my birthday.  I've seen the tremendous things that a group of caring, committed people can do and that still makes a powerful impact for an organization like the Literacy Council.  Thank you for indulging my birthday!"

This dedicated individual  presented many much needed gifts to York County Literacy Council on her birthday as a result of her "birthday plea"  and kind heart.   The Board of Directors, Staff, and students are truly grateful for her thoughtfulness and generosity.     The impact she and her family and friends have made is that we have been given needed items and even beyond that we are touched, inspired and renewed in our mission!

If you wish to use your birthday to support York County Literacy Council we will be glad to provide literature and  thank you notes.
